Negli ultimi anni, l’interesse da parte della comunità
scientifi ca nei confronti delle infezioni da Giardia e
Cryptosporidium è aumentato notevolmente a causa
delle sempre più numerose segnalazioni di focolai
anche nei paesi industrializzati. Entrambi i protozoi
possono essere trasmessi sia per contatto diretto orofecale
sia per ingestione di cibo o acqua contaminata.
Il recente rilievo che alcuni genotipi e/o specie
possono essere condivisi dall’uomo e da numerose
specie animali, ha posto notevoli interrogativi sulla
eventualità di una concreta trasmissione interspeciem
e acceso dibattiti sulle evidenze scientifi che relativamente
all’interesse zoonosico.
La Giornata, grazie all’intervento di uno tra più insigni
studiosi, il Prof. Fayer, e di ricercatori italiani
impegnati da anni su queste tematiche, intende sintetizzare
la situazione degli studi a livello internazionale
e fornire un quadro aggiornato e applicativo
sulle più recenti acquisizioni scientifi che in campo
nazionale, relativamente alla diffusione di queste patologie
negli animali, nell’ambiente e nell’uomo, agli
aspetti eco-epidemiologici, agli strumenti diagnostici
oggi disponibili, al risvolto clinico e, infi ne, all’importanza
della prevenzione.
L’incontro è rivolto a medici, infettivisti, veterinari,
biologi, tecnici della prevenzione e a tutti
coloro che operano nell’ambito della sanità
pubblica.
